We often get cases that are complex, confusing and difficult. Our own countertransference shows up and instead of working with it, we fight it. We feel like we've hit our limits as therapists and don't know how to help or where to refer. Psychotherapy training and supervision boxes us in with certain clients who need a more nuanced and creative approach. I find with these clients, we need to take a more existential or depth perspective and pull back and look at the whole system. Throughout my career I have incorporated an approach that requires nuance, trust, and intuition that I would like to share for the right clinician.
